How to Export Your Instagram Followers to Excel or CSV (2026 Guide)

July 14, 2026 · Instagram followers

Instagram will happily show you a follower count, but it gives you no way to export the actual list of who those people are. If you want your followers in a spreadsheet — to sort them, analyze them, or just keep a backup — you have to get the data out yourself. Here's how, including the fast way.

Why Instagram doesn't let you export

Instagram's own "Download your information" tool includes a followers file, but it's slow (you request it and wait, sometimes for hours), it arrives as raw JSON or HTML that's painful to read, and it doesn't include useful details like full names or verified status in a spreadsheet-ready form. For a quick, sortable list, it's the wrong tool.

What a good export looks like

A useful followers export is a table with one row per follower and columns you can actually filter on:

  • Username and Full name
  • Profile URL (clickable straight to their page)
  • User ID
  • Private and Verified flags

With that in Excel or Google Sheets, you can sort by name, filter to verified accounts, dedupe against another list, or cross-reference your following list to find non-followers.

The one-click method

IG Follower Extractor turns any account's followers into a CSV or a real Excel (.xlsx) file in a single click. You open the extension, pick an account (or auto-detect your own), and it pages through the entire followers list using your own logged-in session — then hands you a clean spreadsheet with all the columns above. It also previews the first 100 rows before you download, so you can confirm it's the right list. Because it runs entirely in your browser, you never type your Instagram password into a third-party website.

Step by step

  1. Install IG Follower Extractor and make sure you're logged in to Instagram in the same browser.
  2. Open the extension and click Use my account (or type any public handle).
  3. Choose Export Followers.
  4. Watch the live progress bar; hit stop anytime for very large accounts.
  5. Click Download Excel or Download CSV.

Quick answers

  • CSV or Excel? CSV opens anywhere and is great for importing elsewhere; the .xlsx file opens cleanly in Excel, Google Sheets, and Numbers with proper columns. The extension gives you both.
  • Can I export someone else's followers? You can export what you can already see — public accounts, or your own. Private accounts you don't follow are off-limits.
  • Is my password safe? You never enter it. The export uses the session you're already logged into, in your own browser.
  • Will Instagram notice? The export reads the same public endpoints the website uses and is gently rate-limited to stay within normal limits.
